Dex learns from your behavior over time and proactively suggests actions based on what you're working on, surfacing the right task at the right time.

How Dex Learns

An hourly pipeline processes your chats and browsing into structured memories. Over time, Dex builds up:

  • Core memory: your identity, role, communication style. Used in every conversation.
  • Semantic memories: a growing record per person, project, or company you interact with.
  • Integration memories: how you use each app.
  • Procedural memories: workflows documented after you repeat a pattern 2+ times.

All memories are auto-accessed and used during a chat based on relevance to your message.

Proactive Suggestions

Dex shows suggested actions in the sidebar based on your current context:

  • Automations panel: suggests new automations based on your existing and recent browsing.
  • Tasks panel: suggests concrete tasks based on your open tabs and recent activity.
  • Task detail view: suggests next steps for a specific task.

Site-Specific Suggestions

When you navigate to a page, Dex shows contextual chat starters:

  • App-matched: for known sites like Gmail, GitHub, Google Calendar, etc., Dex shows specific prompts based on where you are. For example: Gmail inbox → "Summarize unread emails." Github PR → "Review this PR." Google Calendar → "What's on my schedule today?"
  • AI-generated: for other sites, Dex creates 3 custom prompts based on the page title and URL.

Supported for 17+ sites: Gmail, GitHub, Google Calendar, Slack, Notion, Sheets, Docs, Drive, Linear, HubSpot, Salesforce, Asana, Intercom, Shopify, QuickBooks, Apollo, Attio, and Gong.

Settings

These controls are available in your dashboard:

  • Memory: toggle whether Dex can learn from browsing and chat. Disabling also turns off proactive suggestions.
  • Proactive Suggestions: requires memory to be on. Toggle suggestions independently.
  • Disabled Sites: domain blocklist where Dex ignores all page content. See disabling.
