Getting StartedIntroduction

Introduction

Dex is an AI coworker that lives in your browser. It learns how you work, your tools, your preferences, your workflows, so you can delegate tasks from a single prompt.

What is Dex?

Dex turns Chrome into a single AI workspace, one brain that knows your tasks, your context, and how to move your work forward. It connects to the tools (Gmail, Slack, Linear, Notion, and 18+ more), remembers over time, and takes action on your behalf.

Unlike chat-based AI tools that require you to copy-paste context and re-explain yourself every session, Dex sees what you see, remembers what matters, and acts where you work.

The Sidebar

The Dex sidebar is your primary interface. Open it on any page with Cmd+J (Mac) or Alt+J (Windows), type a prompt, and Dex handles the rest, reading the current page, pulling context from connected apps, and executing actions without leaving your tab.

  • Page-aware. Dex reads the content of whatever page you're on, no copy-pasting needed.
  • Cross-app. Connected apps let Dex pull and push data across your tools in a single workflow.
  • Proactive. Dex surfaces actions based on what you're viewing, like drafting a follow-up after a meeting or pulling your availability when someone asks to chat.

Core Concepts

Context

Dex gathers info from your browser (active tab, open tabs, browsing history, highlighted text) and connected apps. This info is automatically attached to your prompts so the AI has full awareness of what you're working on.

Memory

Dex builds a persistent memory of your tools, team, preferences, and workflows. Memories are auto-generated from your conversations and browsing, and used in future sessions so you never have to repeat yourself. Memory is opt-in and fully user-controlled, manage it in Settings.

Actions

Dex doesn't just answer questions, it takes action. It can send emails, create tickets, update spreadsheets, navigate the browser, and run multi-step automations across tabs and apps.

Skills

Skills are reusable instruction sets you create to teach Dex how to handle recurring tasks your way. Define them once in markdown, and Dex follows them whenever relevant.

Channels

Dex is currently available as a Chrome extension on any platform that supports Chrome, macOS, Windows, and Linux. The extension includes:

  • Sidebar (Cmd+J), the main chat interface, available on any page.
  • Launcher (Cmd+E), a quick-action overlay for fast prompts without opening the full sidebar.
